The Wyong Creative Depot provides creative workshop space for artists, designers, creative individuals and groups in the heart of the Central Coast town.
Grouped around a beautifully landscaped courtyard, the planning arranges studio spaces at a range of scales around the perimeter of the plan, with each studio accused via and facing the courtyard. The building complements and engages in a dialogue with the Wyong Art House theatre designed by TZG Architects, situated diagonally opposite the site.
The building is conceived as a robust bunker, designed to withstand the day to day use by artists, set-builders, theatre practice groups and other creative agencies. Constructed in rammed earth cast from local clays, the monolithic form is contrasted against an abstract folded roof form in red oxide painted steel – a reference to rural shed structures that characterise much of the landscape in upper NSW.
