Mount Cooper is a working cattle farm at Ando, in the Monaro region of NSW. The project includes a 190sqm extension to an existing sandstone homestead, which is refurbished as part of the works. The new building grouping creates a pair of linked courtyards and provides expanded accommodation for the owners and their young family.
The building is built traditionally in cement bagged masonry with a pitched galvanized steel roof. Interior finishes continue the exposure of bagged brick to perimeter walls and combine this with basalt bench-tops and outdoor paving to ground the building within its garden setting. The project includes extensive landscape works to create a series of settings for an extensive collection of contemporary art.
